The Reading team impressed the judges with their projects which help individuals and businesses make money from nothing just by making small changes to their routine. The team impressed judges at the competition with their day-to-day financial management programme run at Reading Single Homeless Project which helped one participants to save 50% on his weekly shopping bill and take a step towards making small changes that could turn his life around. Savings of a different kind were made in the Earth Hour Ultra Challenge project which helped local companies to monitor wasted weekend energy and save upto 50% simply by switching off unneccessary office equipment for the weekend co-inciding with the WWFs Earth Hour campaign.
School's In!
SIFE Reading also have a strong basis of school-based projects which help younger students to see the many routes to success and get the buzz for entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise. This year they successfully mentored a team through the Future Foundations/NESTA Third Sector Edge scheme and helped 6th form and year 9/10 Reading Girls school pupils to set up drama workshops for children with special educational needs -their pilot at the Avenue school was a huge success with the school students winning an award at the TSE awards day. SIFE are now offering consultancy to the school to set this venture up as a business.

For 2009-10 SIFE Reading will be developing a dedicated Commercial and Consultancy stream to their organisation, their first project will be to set up a marketing consultancy to offfer local SMEs an affordable an innovative look at their business and marketing strategy! The team have also created a strategy board of key committee members, business advisers and University advisers to help guide their organisation through rapid growth.
